Indoor progress only with the cold weather.
Still so cold that outside work is a problem! On Monday Rodri fabricated a simple puller to see if the big Crossley gas engine piston would move. Needed a good 20 tons to get it started but went easily with a steady 5 ton pressure after that.
The first ring was about to come out of the liner so we stopped at that point so that we can finish pulling the piston next Monday.
While myself and Rhodri were away having fun in Ireland, Keith got stuck in and cleaned and sorted the three-throw pump for the baby gas engine from Milton Keynes. It now spins over easily and is ready for installation in a couple of weeks time.
Today, the ex DWE VJ cylinder was taken into Hall 3 and a puller rigged up to try and shift the piston. By knocking off time we had the bottom of the skirt 12" clear of the liner so the rest should be easy. Bore is in good condition and will clean up nicely.
